For contributors
Submit your work.
Every writer was unknown once.
The Astyanax publishes essays, criticism, fiction, poetry, and lectures by emerging scholars and writers across the humanities — literature, history, philosophy, classics, politics, economics, and the arts.
We are not looking for a particular style or school of thought. We are looking for rigour, originality, and the willingness to argue a case. Undergraduate and postgraduate work is welcome. So is work from those outside the academy.
Submissions are reviewed by the editorial board. You will hear back within five working days. If your piece is accepted, an editor will work with you before publication.
A note on submissions
There are no credential requirements. We are not looking for an institution, a degree, or a publishing history. We are looking for writing that thinks seriously about something worth thinking seriously about.
Essays of any length are welcome. Work in progress is welcome. Work already published on your own blog or elsewhere is welcome — if it is good, we want it here.
Lectures. Submit a YouTube or Vimeo link. Add notes or a transcript if you wish.
Not sure if your work is a fit? Write to editor@theastyanax.com — we will tell you honestly.

Why submit
A publication credit
Every accepted piece is formally published under your name. That is a credential — on your CV, your LinkedIn profile, and your academic record.
Editorial attention
Every submission is read by an editor. If your piece is accepted, an editor works with you before it goes live. You will not be left to figure it out alone.
A permanent record
Your piece lives on The Astyanax indefinitely, with your name and biography attached. It is yours, and it is findable.
An audience
Our newsletter goes to subscribers who chose to read serious humanities work. Submitting puts your writing in front of people who are already looking for it.
It counts on LinkedIn
Published contributors can add Contributor, The Astyanax to their LinkedIn experience section. That update goes to your entire network.
